Hello, I have recently bought a new headset being the Steelseries Siberia V2, I chose the 3.5mm version over the usb as it was cheaper, I have learnt that the usb version has a built in sound card to the usb to give a virtual surround sound effect. My motherboard (Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5) has a built in Dolby surround sound card for 5.1 surround sound systems to either be plugged in via the jacks or optical out, I was wondering if there was a way to emulate the same surround sound I'd get with the USB using the jacks on my sound card? Any help would be appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Josh

using the jacks on your soundcard? not exactly.

what you are looking for is virtual surround support... such as dolby headphone, cmss3d, SBX or similar.

it looks as if your motherboard does not come with this capability so to get those you would need to buy a soundcard. the xonar dg for $27 has dolby headphone.

if you were looking for a free option then you could give razer surround http://www.razerzone.com/surround a try.

they do make external boxes which can provide a virtual surround output but they are more costly then the internal soundcard solution and are only going to be applicable for laptops and consoles so i did not list them.
