Hi all,
A few months ago there was a free weekend for the game Dead Island Riptide on Steam. At the time I downloaded it and played it no problems whatsoever. The game became cheap in this year's Steam Summer Sale so I bought it to play with friends, however it no longer worked.
Initially I thought this was a problem only with Riptide, however over time I have found that it is a large number of games that now are affected by an identical problem.
What usually happens is I'll open the game and it will get to a certain point, most often near the beginning of the startup process (e.g. Title sequences/launcher/main menu etc.) and the game will then become unresponsive. Should I try to end the game's process via task manager, it most often does not do so for around three minutes
I today found with Dead Island Riptide and Payday: The Heist that I just have to wait some time for the game to progress after a spell of being non responsive. I am unable to reach this stage with many other games however.
I have looked up this problem a lot and have not yet been able to find anything that has fixed this problem:
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the number of games I am unable to play seems to be becoming larger and larger.

My PC matches the requirements of the games
Full virus scan of my computer
Windows Updates have been downloaded and installed
Uninstalled and re-installed my Steam Client
Uninstalled and re-installed the games
Verified game cache integrity
Updated graphics card drivers
Run the game in compatibility mode
Run the game as an admin
Downloaded the latest version of DirectX
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as the number of games I am unable to play seems to be becoming larger and larger.
