Hi a friend of mine is gonna build a beast computer, and can't find anything about which graphic's card choice is better. Knowing that most people here do you computer well :) can some one tell me which choice of a card is better and why?

"Any computer guru's out there can tell me what is better
Quad Liquid cooled 3 GB GTX 780ti's VS Dual Air Cooled 12GB NVIDIA GTX Titan Z

I've been doing a lot of research and can't find anyone that has made a forum post or similar post trying to compare what I am doing. I am building a new PC next month and those are the 2 best options.

my entire PC will be Cryogenic liquid cooled so if the quad cards are better I will get a cooling liquid block to connect them all, if the dual titan Z's are better than I might drop the liquid all together.

Thanks for reading and if you do have an answer please don't just name the card, please do me the favor and explain why you chose and if you read it somewhere if you could link the page. Thanks again!"

(Quoted him :p) And yes if there is any info you find please do leave a link, p.s this is a question i kinda came up with but i heard the gtx 900 series is coming out October, and i would like to know how good they will be if there is leaked information about them)

His specs he is planning: (aside from the graphics)
Processor- i7 octo-core over clocked 5960k
Ram- 32 gig of 2133 ram
Mother board- New Asus Rampage V

His Full build: (Please tell me how good this build is and how well it will run the latest games out there. :D

Hello,

Quad 780Ti is better for gaming, but for 4K resolution and beyond (over 3840 x 2160) he needs the maximum video memory available, so he should go for a pair of Titan Z or a pair of R9-295 (mind you, in SLI/Crossfire the amount of usable video memory is not adding with each additional card; Titan Z will use 6 GB at the time and R9-295 will use 4 GB). If he is trying to build a workstation and 6GB of video memory is not enough, I would suggest a pair of Quadro K5200 (8GB) or Quadro K6000 (12GB).

What CPU will he use? For such graphics power, he needs at least an i7-4930K (or the upcoming i7-5930K) for the Quad SLI (for having enough PCI-E lanes), or at least an i5-4690K for the Titan Z-s.

Not sure i will ask him what he plans on doing for a full build.

Check this:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/intel-core-i7-5960x-haswell-e-cpu,review-33029.html

For less than i7-5960X (8-core, 3GHz, 40 PCI-E lanes), an i7-5930K (6-core, 3.5 GHz, 40 PCI-E lanes) will be the best choice in many scenarios, and sometimes even the "little" i7-5820K (6-core, 3.3GHz, 28 PCI-E lanes) put the i7-5960x to shame.

Tell your friend to study the benchmarks and to take note of the advantages/disadvantages for each CPU (as you can see, not always the most expensive component is the best).

For right now AMD is the best option for 4k as crossfire stripes memory as opposed to mirroring it. Thus even two GTX Titan Z's would still only have 6GB of usable memory. At least without some serious modification and even then I'm fairly certain that its just not possible. But two r9 295's would have 16GB available for use. Just be sure that the 4k monitor he gets supports 60Hz refresh and has a response time of under 6ms for gaming. I won't recommend workstation parts since I have very little experience in this field and drivers and software support for individual cards vary depending on what you will be using.

And as for the GTX 900 rumor, it's false. the GTX 880 and 870 are slated for late this year to early next year. Other than that we know the 880 will be less expensive than the 780 (non ti), as for performance their have been a few legit leaked benchmarks and they show it will outperform the 780ti by about 22% and the 780 by about 30%. They also have lower TDP and will likely have 8gb versions down the road but the reference card has 4gb.

I apologize, it does not double the memory, however I did find that it stripes the data throughput similar to dual channel memory on the 295. Of course this is only implemented on some programs through AFI and depending on the needs of the computer at the time.

Thanks for all these replies guys, it will take a while for him to build it, i got the list off all the specs from hims (the spec list is from Origin Pc) Not sure if all the parts are needed but still would be good to know :D
