Hi so i made a couple of mistakes when buying parts for my computer. And i bought a very cheap motherboard that doesn't even have SATA 3. I WANT TO UPGRADE. but, i recently was told that if i get a new mobo i need to buy windows again. Is this true? Do i really have to pay 110$ all over again?!? so IF ANYONE can tell me if this is true of false it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You do not need to re-buy Windows all over again. You need to uninstall the chipset drivers and everything elst that came with that motherboard. If windows fails to boot, install the drive in another computer and navigate to E:\ (or existing drive letter)\username and backup your stuff.

If an OEM copy then yes, the key is tied to the first motherboard it is installed on and cannot be transferred to another except in the case of failure of the motherboard, and then only if the new board is identical to the old. The only exception is when an identical motherboard is no longer available. Microsoft is under no obligation to allow you to reuse an OEM key on a new system.

If you own a retail copy then as long as you are only using it on one machine at a time you can transfer the license.
