Want to build an ultra budget box, need help

I want to build an XBMC box for some movies, emulators, and pre-2008 games. As such, I need the bare minimum for:
2GB RAM
256mb GPU
3.2ghz dual core CPU
250GB HDD
Windows XP or newer
All this for around or under $250

So far I've seen APU builds as the best option, is this the case?

Yes, you're better off building an APU build.

I suggest saving your pennies for a few more weeks to get something more like this.

If you want an even better APU, you can go for the A10-5800K but it will be about 2x the price of the A6-5400k according to pcpartpicker
