I have been wanting to overclock my CPU for a very long time now but I never had the courage to do so.
The CPU runs at default 4.0ghz with the default turbo of 4.2 I think?
If I was to disable turbo core and change the multiplier to get a speed of 4.5ghz would I feel any noticeable difference when I am gaming? Would it be even possible with my current heatsink?
Most games I play have frame drops that I believe the CPU is responsible for.

My Specs:
Radeon 7970
AMD FX 8350
Asus Sabertooth 990fx rev 2.0
16GB RAM
Windows 7

i have a pretty similar MOBO like yours but yours is better i have my FX8350 OC'ed to 4.6 using Hyper 212 EVO i dont know how Plus will handle the CPUs temps

And yes it will not be that much gain in performance but it will feal somehow smoother couse the increese of maybe 5FPS or less depends on what games you will play

if you are going to OC that CPU there is some thing you must understand i recommend you to read this folowing threads:

for CPU temperature: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html

this was sent to me by some guy it helped me:

For AMD FX, with a good cooler (like yours), these would be my best bet (room temp 22-28C):

25-35C on idle. 0-10% usage

35-45C on medium gaming. 25-45%

45-55C on heavy gaming and medium to high rendering/ CPU intensive tasks. 50-70%

55-60C heavy rendering, 80%+ CPU usage.

60-65C stress tests like Prime95 with ~100% continous usage.

those above mentioned temps are core temps

use AMD Overdrive to Stress Test your CPU you will have TempMargin there so you will know how much you can OC and if something is wrong the test will shut down all cores not just one failed core like Prime95 download from here: http://www.amd.com/en-us/markets/game/downloads

use this to monitor your temps of socket, mobo and CPU core: http://openhardwaremonitor.org/

Thank You exban224 and Jovan93. I think I will avoid serious overclocking for the time being then. But in a couple of years time when my CPU is on it's last legs I will follow your guide to squeeze the last drops out of it. I will attempt a temporary overclock with your guide though just too see what it is like.
I have installed CPUID HWmonitor and will get AMD Overdrive after work tomorrow and give it a whirl. Couldn't thank you both enough especially Jovan93 you have gone above and beyond to assist me.

not a problem glad that i can help you will see as i did to (i was first timer in OC world my self a mounth ago) that OC'ing is not that hard or anything you just need some basic understanding of the parts you own and knowing theirs limits not much
