Any ideas on whether this is a good CPU cooler? I'm deciding between this, the Cryorig R1 Universal or a Nepton 280L though I'm a bit worried about introducing water to my system! Both run at around 50c - 55c full load but I just want to check that the U14S as I assumed the D14 was the top of the line cooler for Noctua, but this one has slightly lower temps.

I would like to know as well xD

Yes its an excellent cooler, its essentially a D14 w/ 1 fan instead of two, a slimmer version. It'd be an awesome buy anyday :)

Well just to get the best cooling performance, I'm adding a second fan onto it. Also, from reviews online, it can have a i7-4770k at 45c full load, but many say a few degrees extra! Still, 50c is still a pretty good temp!

You don't have to worry until it gets 65-70C+ on full load with that cooler, add a second fan, and those temps can be lowered further to around 60-65C on full load, still brilliant temps considering full load temps are in the 70s range with a stock cooler (w/o OC) and the worrying temps are 80C+ :)

@MeteorsRaining On all the reviews online they show it running i7-4770kk at around 49c full load but I saw one yesterday that ran one at 45c. They've all said it's like a D14 but smaller so it has around the same performance as one. That's why I'm so skeptical about it, as its so small but is equally a powerful as a water cooler or the PH-TC14PE!

Yes its a powerful cooler, but certainly not as powerful as D14 or TC14. Its still a great cooler and will keep the CPU all the time no doubt, but comparing it with D14 or Phanteks 14 is a bit not-in-the-same-league type. Yes it'd be my choice over liquid coolers like H80i or Seidon 120M, but comparing it with Krakens or H100i will again be not so good.

1 very important aspect to keep in mind while looking at the results is ambient temp. The first 2 tests were conducted when the room temp was 20C, while the s3rd was conducted with 25C ambient temp.

Moreover, 2 of the sites did not use proper case, they used a test bench which's obviously cooler than a real case.

Additionally, 2nd site used a non-OCable i5-2405S, and all sites used stock frequency (not turbo) at max load and called the turbo load, the OC load (except in one where it was really OCed). The results give us a good idea of what the range of temp is: very cool, cool, warm, hot, insanely hot. U14S comes in very cool-cool.

Take it this way, my 4790k OCed to 4.5GHz gets 67-71C temp on Prime95 100% load, which is way higher than what it says here (the processor is different buy OC is around the same):

But that doesn't mean my cooler is faulty, it just means that the temps in experimentations are not real world, they depend a lot on room temp, case airflow, OC with VCore and many other factors.

And in no way am I saying that U14S is a bad cooler, its one of the best indeed, but it won't give you 45-50C on 100% load with say 4690k even with slight OC.

Yeah, I've looked around after posting that and they all use older CPUs plus lots of things vary from what I have/use. I think I'll just take the jump - H110 it is! I'm paranoid about it going wrong, but i'm sure if I install it correctly, then if it breaks it won't be a fault on my part and Corsair will have to pay. Thats the only thing I'm worried about - it leaking!

It'd be really helpful to me if you tell your CPU and case. H110 won't fit in all cases thanks to its 280mm radiator. Also, don't worry it won't leak ;)

i7-4790k and a NZXT Phantom 630 - it definitely works in the case though as I've already seen a video on YouTube with someone with it in a 630! As for the CPU, it's listed as LGA1150 so it fits fine! And yeah, I've just managed to get my head round the fact it won't leak! By the way, do AIO coolers come so all you have to do is apply thermal paste, attach the base and radiator to the case? Or do I have to connect tubes and stuff? I'm pretty sure you don't and its a case of seat and go, bit you seem to know alot so I was wondering! Also, thabks alot for your help, you've been very helpful! :-D

It'll work great. Yes you just need to fix those over the CPU and attach radiator and stuff, its really easy to attach everything in place, a great video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0VfiDHgk4g
PS: Welcome :)
