So I'm looking to upgrade my FX 8320 to something from Intel.

I use my PC mainly for gaming and will most likely not be overclocking. I was looking at either the 4770k or the 4790k and couldn't figure out why they are the same price. Which do you think I should go for?

Also, any help with a motherboard that can use them would be great. I've always used AMD CPUs so I'm a complete newcomer to Intel.

Thanks :)

If you are just gaming and no oc, a i5 4690 will do, i7's are for workstations and gamers that need to edit record or stream their games, for a just gaming person, a i5 4690 will do, since you don't plan to oc a model without a 'k' will be fine ad k models allkw for overclock, the i5 is 30-50% than 8320 I'd say

The 4790k is newer and it's meant to replace the 4770k, that's why they're the same price. What is your budget for the motherboard?

If you won't be overclocking, you might want to get a Xeon E3-1231V3, it's basically an i7-4770 without integrated graphics, but it's much cheaper.

Thanks very much for the suggestions :) . I may want to record and stream in the future so I'd quite like the option. I'd prefer not to go over £400 for the MoBo and CPU but I'm flexible.

Then you can get a i7 4790k, http://m.ebuyer.com/645546
And since we live in britain, we have the privilege of getting a asus maximus vii ranger, available obly in euhttp://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-maximus-vii-ranger-...(x16)-quad-sli-crossfirex-d-sub-(vga)-dvi-d-hdm?utm_source=google+shopping&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=Cj0KEQjw7IWgBRCjv8Cv4vfC3ckBEiQAE7nvR43-9rqUFmOutLINqKxY1zeUwwd_HT_O6_wXxcTTNA4aAr8s8P8HAQ
Both add up to around £360, enough left for a cpu cooler, always better to have the choice to oc than to never have it co sidering the price difference is £10

i think you should wait for the next gen intel chips. 8320 is a beast on its own. yes i5 would be better. but wont be so much noticeable. in benchmarks yes. but in real world gaming not so much. you would just waste your money going to intel now. wait for the next gen intel. or OC your 8320 to have better performance. also see this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvLRZxRL8N8

I would get the 4790k since it is "newer" to an extent.

Though I normally say 'buy now', I would actually suggest waiting around until the new intel arch arrives. The 8320 should tide you over quite easily until then, and you will have more money saved to boot. The new arch is on a smaller die and, hopefully, will have a few more tricks up its sleeve. And if it doesn't, guess what? Those haswel chips will still be there.

It is a win/win situation for you.
