I'd go with Intel purely for their stronger single-core performance, hence you'll have better gaming performance with Intel. With the CPU I've selected, you should outperform any AMD in gaming and multitasking. Remember however, if you purchase an Intel CPU, you'll need a compatible Intel motherboard.

I recommend the Xeon E3-1231 v3, which performs similar to the i7-4770 yet only for $250. The only minor concern is that it doesn't have integrated graphics, so you'll need a dedicated/discrete GPU (so you can see your monitor display). With a dedicated GPU, the Xeon is an all around winner; you should have a dedicated GPU anyhow if you're planning to game. Again the Xeon will perform similar to the i7-4770; both are quad-core with Hyper Threading (4 cores / 8 threads).
