I got a 1000w cooler master silent pro bronze psu but can that connect to an r9 290? Pcpartpicker tells me no i know that the 1000w is overkill but its a free gift from a mate of mine however i think the connections might be different

Solution
The PSU should have come with pcie cables that are 6+2. Which means you can use one for the 6 and the other part or cable for the 8 by adding the 6+2=8. My v1000 has two 6+2 heads per pcie cable. And being 1000w bronze you should be fine running that PSU.
