Now I already know about how games dont really take advantage of the I7 hyperthreading. But I just recently purchased an I5 4690k which is 3.5 ghz. So I started second guessing my purchase since the I7 is at 4.0 ghz.

So how much of a performance boost would i see in games if I was to go for the I7? And im planning to crossfire my r9 270x down the road, so can the I5 4690k handle two GPUs and would the hyperthreading or the .5ghz differences of the I7 would be better suited of that.

Thanks

You would see no performance gains in gaming by jumping to an i7. The i5 can handle 290x crossfire, let alone 270x crossfire. If you really need to the 4690k can easily overclock to 4ghz.

i7 also has a bigger L3, but the only games that benefit from an i7 are Sim like games.

Flight Simulator runs better on an i7, but not much, and really only if you have a lot of add on stuff.

Most games are GPU intensive, and an i5 is plenty.

The I5 is probably the best cpu for gaming in general. i7 will only help you if you plan to do video editing/ rendering/ livestreaming, but if you dont plan to do any of those, your i5 is perfectly fine.
