My pc was finished up last night and it ran perfectly for a couple of hours while I installed drivers and then played a game for about ten minutes. I was just playing that game again now and the screen froze and the sound went off. No error message, I hit the windows key but all that did was make my cursor visible while the frozen game screen remained. I was able to move the cursor and nothing else. I had to do a cold shut down. Now it won't turn back on. The monitor says that there is no signal.

Nothing is unplugged or disconnected on the outside or inside and I wasn't doing anything intensive, and it was an abrupt crash. I don't know what could possibly be wrong. It doesn't even begin to boot up. It's like pressing the power button on an empty chassis.

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 gpu
EVGA Supernova 1000W psu
Asus Z97-A motherboard
Intel i7 processor with stock cooler
Those are the only parts I'd think can possibly be relevant.

Again, it won't boot up at all. No error messages, I don't even hear the components starting up. The LEDs on the fans aren't even working. Please help.

Solution
Well the colors should be the same as they are in the video. Just count the wires from the left or the right as to match how they are in the video. The wirea/pins have to correspond to the atx standard so it should be the same arrangement of cables regardless of color. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Ugh sorry I didnt mean to select that as a solution.

The monitor is turning on and they're plugged into the same dock, and my mouse lights up, so I don't think it's an electrical problem. How do I do that test?

well you said nothing happening at all in the first post, try booting with one RAM stick in.

Nothing happening specifically with the computer. I'm almost positive that if its between the mobo and psu, it's the psu. I mean the mouse is plugged into the i/o panel and it was still working after the crash, and it continues to light up when I turn the computer on. So correct me if I'm wrong but I interpret that as meaning the mobo works.

Lets go back to the psu test. Theres supposed to be a green cable somewhere for the paperclip right? My motherboard to psu cable has all black wires. In fact nothing in the whole case has a green wire. Is there another way to test the psu?

with motherboards it could be only a certain part is not working, and power can still get delivered to parts like the mouse regardless. The wires are probably colored but have a black wiring around them all.

I found a atx standard diagram to locate the pins and did the test. The PSU made a very slight sort of twinging sound when I turned the power on, but didn't actually start. So I guess we've found the culprit. Thank you so much for all of your advice Beezy! I was honestly about to just return all of the components out of frustration.

That's great. Let's hope it really is the cause and not misinformation . there are different 'versions' of the atx standard so make sure it wasnt an old diagram or something like that (which could also result in a failed test )...I still don't see how the mouse got power If the psu didnt start up with the test.

They were pins 16 and 17, which I found from multiple diagrams. I'm not sure how to verify how old they are, but they indicated pins 16 and 17 as the power pin and one of the grounds.

It is weird now that you mention it, but judging by the silence when I first tried booting up after the crash, nothing else was able to start. No fans, no LED lights, nothing. Even the optical drive wouldnt open. Maybe the mouse is just an anomaly.
