So, i've finally build my gamingrig, well its pretty much aged, but it works..

2 weeks ago BF4 was free to download and play for a week..

I did and played, but i got framedrops, i dont have them on BF3 everything ultra, while BF4 was running medium/low.

I downloaded some program called Speccy, where you can see how everything is running. I saw that my CPU was running 100%. While my GPU was running 60-65%.

So I'm a complete noob at overclocking but have been reading and looking video's about it for months..
So i thaught, lets see I can bump it up a bit.. So i got this E8400 running stock at 3 Ghz. 9x333 mhz.
I've seen on many forums these CPU's were pretty good oc'ers, but if i only made this tiny little change it didn't boot anymore..

I don't really now if I'm doing something wrong or it's the hardware what is giving me a hard time.

My components:

CPU: C2Duo E8400 (stock 3.00 ghz)
GPU: ASUS GTX650 Ti Boost
Mobo: ASrock G41M-GS
RAM: 8 Gb KVR1333
PSU: OCZ 750W Silver
HDD: pretty old 500GB WD HDD

Hope u guys can help.
Maybe i should try this OCTuner from ASrock. But i read that's not good, and i should oc in BIOS.

Thanks in advance.

Is this old CPU week or something? My old E8190 @ 3.2ghz struggles to play WoW anymore, and you are expecting to play moderns games with an E8400? A Q9550 or 9560 would be better, but even those are slower than an i3 4150.

Do you have aftermarket CPU cooling? If not you might get away with a slight ( like 300 to 400Mhz ) overclock but not enough to help make a game like BF 4 more playable. Really even taking the E8400 to 4Ghz which was about as high as it would go will not help very much. It's certainly worth trying of course but new games almost demand you have a good quad core CPU at this point. This is especially true in multiplayer scenarios which are very CPU dependent.

To overclock Core2Duo follow this excellent guide.

If you have any specific questions fell free to post in this thread again and I will try to help. I ran an E8400 at 4.050Ghz ( 450FSB ) for several years. They were great chips. But you really need a quad for newer games.

Well, last week I got this second hand Q6600, put i was out of thermal paste. I should order some.

I know these are pretty good oc'ing chips too, so maybe I should try that?

Thanks for the guide by the way!

With a good cooler you might get 3.2Ghz out of your Q6600. That will cripple it as bad as only having 2 cores cripples the E8400. The E8400 at 4Ghz is better.
