looking at the tower from the front, is it about 7 inches wide, or 4 inches wide?
meaning does it look like this one in this pic?

it looks like they all use a 365w power supply but it does not appear to have any external power pins for a graphics card. you would need a graphics card that gets all its power from the pcie16x lane. it looks like the r7-250x needs at least one 6pin power connector. the r7-240 gets all its power from the pcie16x lane.

the r7-240 is a fairly low end graphics card and combined with whatever core2duo processor you have, your still not going to have much gaming power.

but the r7-240 would work, just dont expect amazing results.

Hi Tolan,

MSI Radeon R7 250X 1GB DDR5 OC and MSI RADEON R7 240 4GB DDR3 LP supports PCI Express 3.0

It means the motherboard MUST have at least one PCIE x16 slot to insert the card. So, please post your motherboard details and we will let you know if it is compatible for your graphics cards.

the op is on a q45 chipset and definitely has an x16 slot. the r7-240 the op listed is also a "low profile" design. as long as the computer is not one of those ultra slim cases, the card will definitely work.

though honestly, the r7-240 is slower than the igpu found in the a10-5800k.

just curious, what exactly are you trying to accomplish by getting this graphics card? i hope your not thinking your going to play battlefield 4 or some new game and be wowed by it.

yes, you should be fine even though your not at 400w.... the r7-240 is only using roughly 65w at peak and your e8400 is rated 65w tdp, the rest of you system maybe 50w at best if the cd drive is spinning at max and anything else going. its really the 12v rail amperage is what matters. you power supply probably has a sticker that says what the 12v amp rating is but im positive it should have plenty for the r7-240. though in hot weather with a room temp of 80f, your power supply is probably only able to output 300w total, your still more than fine.

total system power, and their using a modestly overclocked sandy bridge processor that uses much more power than your e8400.
