I am about to purchase a CPU/motherboard combination within a month. My budget is around 266$(php converted). I play games and do photo/video editing, surf the net a lot. I am not looking for the most kickass gaming performance but I want a pretty good all-rounder.
Prices around my country is different, acutally more expensive. the 6300 costs 118$ and the 8320 costs 160$. The left will be spent for the motherboard.

Is there a noticable performance within this two? If the extra money for getting an 8320 is not worth it I would spend the saved money for a decent cooling.
I could maybe stretch a little, I wanted to have options for my budget right now, and an option if i decided to stretch my budget. Thank you.

Either one will perform well, but for the price/performance ratio I'd favor the FX-6300.
if it was mostly for gaming I'd recommend the i3-4150 over either, but there's no question an FX CPU will hold up better relative to the price in editing.

It's worth noting, however, due to how AMD handles core pairs in modules, the FX-8320 will be a significant benefit in games that use 4 threads or more, not just games that use 7 or more. I'd still pick the FX-6300 between the two.

Okay, fx-6300 it is then. Secondly, I am planning on pairing it up with a gigabye 990fxa ud3 motherboard, but there is this new MSI - 970 -gaming board which looks very cool and promising, plus I can spend some more money to buy a hyper 212. Is a 970 chipset good enough for a FX-6300 or should I stick with the 990fxa?

Why not try to get I5 4440 at the price of Fx 6300 and Hyper Evo.

I thought of that too. Would that do better than an overclocked fx-6300? If i5 is the choice I will have to cut my budget down for a motherboard.

The 970 chipset is capable in most circumstances, but MSI boards are known for cutting corners and worse quality. If you can find a Gigabyte, Asus, or Asrock motherboard with the 970 chipset, that would be a good balance.

The Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3(P) is an excellent 970 chipset overclocking board and will not hold back air cooling on that CPU. Its a little bit cheaper than a 990 board too :D

That Will be better than a any Overclocked Fx 6300 or Fx 8320.You can buy a Asus H81 and can save some bucks for the cpu. That combo would be better than Fx 6300 or Fx 8320.

The MSI 970 GAMING appears to look the best in terms of OCing capabilities sporting a 6+2 power phrase design and vrm heatsinks

I am planning to stretch my budget further and buy an i5 4460 with an h97 or b85 board. I decided to switch to intel because of power consumption and upgrade path, it also outperforms the fx most of the cases. Thank you for your kind suggestion, now I'm looking for the best motherboard for around 100$ price range.

I'd suggest the ASrock H97 Pro4, if it's available. It's a very nice motherboard considering the relatively low price.
