So i am deciding on which cpu i should buy. :S
The xeon e3-1231 v3 is around 20 eur more expensive then i5 4690k, and 40 more then i5 4670k.
Now with the i5 i can get the extra cooling and overclock it(i would get the asrock z97 pro 4 with the i5), or go with xeon save up 20 eur on mobo and get h97 chipset. I read that xeon compares to i7 at stock speeds, and has more threads. Also the gpu will be r9 290 + 8 GB of ddr3 RAM.

The Xeon is essentially an i7 w/o OCability and integrated graphics. What's the purpose of your build?

If its gaming, then OCable i5 will be a better buy due to the fact that games rely heavily on single core performance rather than more threads/ virtual cores (exceptions are there like BF4 where more cores=better performance).

If you wish to do rendering/ editing/ designing/ 3D modelling/ VFX, then the hyperthreads of Xeon will be more useful. It'd be faster than i5 here.

I don't think you're going to do lots of rendering os 4690k will suffice for your needs. Make sure to OC it with a good af cooler like CM EVO 212.

If you are gaming at 720p with medium details and AA switched off, then the i5 will give you better gaming performance. If you game on Full-HD or higher, and keep good details and medium to high AA levels, than even the 290 is very unlikely to ever be restricted by either CPU. So you might as well get the Xeon for any rendering/computing you do on the side, because both CPUs will give you exactly the same performance in games.

If you even do anything CPU-heavy on the side, that is. If all you do besides gaming is the usual Internet/Office stuff, than you're better of saving the money.
