Is my MSI 770-C45 motherboard core i7 compatible?

So I have the above motherboard (see question) but I'm not super hardware savvy.

I would like to upgrade my processor, but can't find any information online for core i7 hardware requirements.

If it's too difficult to answer specifically whether or not this particular motherboard is compatible, what then do I have to find out in order to judge for myself? Does it all come down to the "socket" type?

Best solution

No that's an AMD MoBo with AM3 socket (yes sockets play a major role) and will only support CPUs upto AMD Phenom II, no Intel CPU will be supported and no FX too. The best bet is Phenom II x4 955/965 BE

If the i7 (assuming its 4th gen) is non-K, get a H87/97 MoBo, if its a 'K' version (meaning OCable), then get a Z87/97 MoBo to be able to OC it. All of the mentioned MoBo chipsets will have LGA1150 sockets, which support 4th gen and 5th gen Intels.

Nice one! Now I have a better idea of what to look for. Cheers!
