When ever my CPU is put under even the slightest load, my power supply makes this really annoying buzzing noise; it sounds like an old hard drive. I've tried stopping the fan with a toothpick to see if the noise stopped but it still happens when the fan isn't spinning.

I've recorded the noise and uploaded it to soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/callum-howard-10/psu-buzz - it starts at around 00.08 and 00.18.

Cheers,

Callum

Yeah, its one of the capacitors inside. Could be a sign of it failing, but I have heard new psus make noises too.

electrical buzz ... its normal . whats the make and model? oh i just noticed you have a cx series corsair ,, really inferior quality ,, recommend upgrading to this .. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B88Z314/ref=ox_sc...

I don't exactly have £117 lying around; and if i did upgrade, I'd get a corsair RM750.

It's just worring me as I've had the PC for nearly a yerar and the sound's only just started. I'm a PC engineer by trade so I see many PSU's come and go and ive never experienced this.

I agree, never skimp on the psu.

I haven't 'skimped' on the PSU. I had no need of a high end PSU made for over clocking and quad titans
