I built my pc last year with the following specs.. i3 3220 + amd 7790, To do some light gaming and general work on my pc. However I got more into gaming and am planning to upgrade.

I am thinking about getting the 270x and keeping the same gpu. But will the i3 hold me back in anyway, i bought this instead of the fx 6300 as tomshardware always puts i3's above 6300's. However looking at the cpu demands of BF4 things are worrying me to some extent. Will the i3 hold me back in any way when playing bf3 and bf4 ?

i3 is a dual core processor. i3 should not bottleneck 270x. Are you upto crossfire? i3 would definitely bottleneck crossfire though.

R9 270x is based on Tahiti-LE core whereas HD 7790 is based on Bonaire XT core. They may not be crossfired with each other.

Ofc I wont and cannot crossfire then lol, I meant im keeping the cpu.. My question is is upgrading to an i5 worth it ? I just want to play bf4 and bf3 on high settings preferably,, with good fps. I am very sure that single players wont be a problem

Single player is not CPU intensive but multiplayer is CPU intenive. Yes, upgrade is worth it. i5 has 4 cores with one thread per core. It is much better than i3. But with R9 270x, i3 should be fine.
