I've been using this same rig for years now and it's never failed on me. This morning when I woke up my computer was off (I usually leave it on over night) and it won't turn on! The link at the bottom of this post (it's a facebook video since I recorded it with my phone), shows what's going on. The computer will not do anything if I press the power. But if I remove the power cable, plug it in, and then try again; it will make an ever so slight move and then turn off again. I've tested the power supply using a paper clip and it appears that it's in working order. This has never happened to me and I'm not sure what's going on.

Yeah it was low quality to start with. The PSU is the single most important part of the computer.

I would start with a new PSU. There is a chance, the PSU failed and fried some of the computer. This is not super likely, but does happen with low quality units. A failed PSU can still pass paperclip test, and not boot a computer.

Also, forget the power button. Unplug it and do all your tests by shorting the power button pins on the motherboard. This completely bypasses any issues with the button itself.

Could the PSU be the problem? Like I said I tested it to make sure it's still running and it passed the test (the paperclip thing). It's been working fine all these years.

I've pretty much unplugged and plugged back in everything inside the computer so I wouldn't think that it's the power button

So it ended up being nothing at all... I did the paperclip test again to show my friends what was going on... And SMOKE started coming up from my computer. I did it once or twice more to find out where it's coming from and it turns out my CD Drive was smoking. So I unplugged the wiring from the CD Drive and bam, everything works again. Not sure how or why this was happening, but I'm glad it worked :p Thanks for the suggestions!
