Hello tomshardware pc enthusiasts,
The pc will be used for general pc usage as well as a lot of word processing, high quality music playback, programming and playing the latest pc games at ultra settings.
As I have no experience or knowledge in pc building, I require expert advice in regards to compatibility and optimisation in relation to all of my selected components. As this computer including its peripherals are going to be such a large investment it’s crucial I receive expert advice and feedback based upon the computer components I have selected/not selected.
Operating System – Windows 8.1
Chassis – MATX Xigmatek Aquila
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA...
Fan controller – no as I understand the motherboard can automatically control fan speed.
Case front fan (will take air in) – 200mm spectre pro 148.72 CFM ±10% http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG...
Case back fan (will take air out) – Use included fan.
Case top fan (both will take air out)– 2 x 140mm Be Quiet! Shadow Wings Fan PWM http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG...
DVD-RW drive – External USB DVD-RW Drive (will be used for installing the OS and music playback)
Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Gene
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maximus-VII-Motherboard-Express...
CPU – Intel i5 4690k
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-i5-4690K-Processor-Graphi...
CPU cooler - I need an easy to install (first build) cooler recommendation, preferably no more than £20 and one which can obviously fit inside the case I listed and not obstruct other components.
gpu – Will have at least 3gb of vram, the gpu will either be the gtx 780, 780ti or possibly the new 800 series if it provides similar performance.
Ram – 2 x 4gb 1.5v ram.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY...
SSD - Samsung 840 evo 250gb 2.5inch Basic SATA ssd
Speakers - Harman/Kardon Soundsticks III
Method of internet connectivity - Cat6 Ethernet cable
Power supply – EVGA Supernova G2 750W (Do not want to save any money here, want the best quality and reliability.
Given the fact that the pc is very expensive I've posted a similar post on another forum in order to receive feedback from a wider audience as it's crucial any compatibility issues and obvious optimisations are identified before attempting to build the pc.
Many many thanks

Asus H97M-PLUS http://www.amazon.co.uk/H97M-PLUS-Motherboard-S-ATA-Exp... <--- I'm guessing this is the best h97 motherboard? I did like the fact that the vii z97 gene apparently has a good sound card and a power surge protected ethernet port though, what are your thoughts on this?

Oh there is also this ---> H97M-E S1150 H97 http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-P-90MB0IQ0-M0EAY0-2-H97M-E... although I'm not sure what the different is compared to the other asus h97 board I just posted. This ---> http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-Mod-1150-H97-Performance... also seems to be around the same price though I have heard ASUS has the best fan controller and I've never heard of ASRock before, apologies for all the questions

Hi again tiny voices, I've been looking at "how to build a pc" tutorials and I thought you may be able to point me in the right direction, where would you start? Where can I find information on what other "bits" I need such as which screw driver, anti-static wrist band etc etc? I think a video guide would be best, I think due to the price of the parts on my list... building the damn thing is rather unnerving!

Forget the anti-static wrist band.

It is all 100% compatible. That is not a problem. You have no CPU cooler but an unlocked CPU and motherboard designed for overclocking.
For the GPU, give the R9 290 a look. It can be had around the same price as a 770 but performs similarly to a 780.
The R9 290 is great for the price as it has better price to performance compared to NVIDIA cards.

I'm curious as to why you believe the i7 will benefit me while programming? There is little information on the internet to suggest how the i7 might be good for a developer.
I understand the only difference between the i7 and i5 are the multi-threading capabilities. I'm really interested in receiving your response, I should mention I mainly program in Java and therefore I'm wondering if 2 x 8gb of ram may be better?
Regardless, I must ask as I could possibly spend the money on a larger ssd, more ram or even a better gpu
Thanks
p.s I looked a the R9 290 a while back... although the price is good... I found a fair few problems on forums in regards to poor driver support. I think Nvidia has better driver support from my research, I doubt my mind will change but please feel free to comment on that matter. The nvidia cards are indeed expensive! Some money left for games would be nice!
(If you do change your mind on the cpu then please provide a link to the newer suggestion)
