Hard drive dying???

Okay so I just built a computer in March of 2014 and I have a feeling my hard drive is dying. It's a 1TB drive. I've used 644GB of it and still have 286GB

The reason I'm asking this question is because it says im using 100% utilization of my disk drive whenever i open task manager and im not even doing anything that intense

Which version of Windows are you using? Why don't we first see if this problem persists in safe mode. For Windows 7 or earlier just press F8 during bootup to get a list of options otherwise

Right, then follow the instructions in the link to reboot into safe mode and check whether the same thing is evident in the task manager. Also, in the task manager under "Processes" try to see which program/programs are using up the most HDD time.

do i need to buy a new hdd? i formatted my hard drive and the problem still exist

If you're still seeing the problem on a fresh install, it seems likely it's a hard drive problem. This software can help diagnose it

Since it is a WD HDD, I would use the WD tool, WD Data Lifeguard Utilities for DOS: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=612&sid=3
(Ignore the pictured HDD. It is the same software for all WD HDDs)

Burn it to a bootable medium (DVD/CD, or USB flash drive) and run it on your WD HDD.
