It will be used for this build:

Which one is preferable? An explanation as to why would be appreciated as well so I can learn for the future.

Also, because I am a complete newbie at PC building, can someone tell me how you can tell if a PSU is single or multi rail? This is the one I've chosen for my build:

I read that you need to be real careful when choosing a PSU so I really don't want to mess this up :D

Thanks!

In this link hunter315 gives some great info.
In short, its the total capacity of the 12V source that matters, how the rails are laid out does not affect you much.

That PSU you are looking at is very high end, and recommended.
Jonnyguru is one of the top PSU testing sites, they gave it a 9.8/10

It will say on the label if it is single ore multi.

I prefer the single as there is no advantage to multi rail.
It was said it was for cleaner power, but the real reason was they were scared the amps were getting too high in a single rail.

The only small disadvantage is some power supplies have uneven rails, and you have to plug the right rail into the graphics card. minor though.

If one rail is short of power, the other rail can't help with multi rail.

If you use an adapter for video card power combining 2 rails, you negate any multi rail.

Some multi rail are multi in name only, the way they are wires.
