Just bought a new graphics card for my pc. Replaced my old Raedon 6790 HD, with MSI R9 270x OC 4GB.

My system:
Seagate 500gb
Intel i5-2500 3.30ghz
Cyberpower PSAZ-CP800 800w
8GB ram kingston ddr3 (4x 2gb)
1080p 24inch monitor
windows 7 64bit
2 fans 1 intake 1 outake
Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3-B3

Drivers all up to date.

Firstly you should know, the r9 270x needs 2x 6pin. my pcu only has 1 so iv had to use 2x molex to actually power the card. which i think is the problem, my pcu.

The card works fine when browsing the internet and other non strenuous tasks.

Gaming is where the problems start. it comes pre clocked 1080 core 1400 mem, BF4 works fine but with my case side panel off. when on it crashes after 10mins or so. Demon souls 2, it crashes as soon as i move, the crash screen is brown with horizontal lines, iv had to turn my overclock down to 850 core and 1100 mem, wheres theres no problems, yet. i find it odd that it crashes on demon souls 2 but not on bf4.

When playing both games, the card gets quite loud, its as soon as the game loads up, not on loading screen just before gameplay, its not the cards fan making a noise because i have them turned up to 50% anyway at the moment. the game still works, i just know it shouldnt be making that noise, i dont want to keep using my card whilst i have this problem i feel the more i use it the more damage i am doing.

I want to be able to overclock my card to the max, whilst obviously not having the crashes or the loud noise. I think its my psu, would buying another solve the problem, using 2x molex isnt helping the cause i know its not recommended. also planning on getting two more noctua fans for the top of my case.

Thats extremely odd for that to be happening. Maybe RMA it or better yet, return it and get an ASUS R9 270X :)

do you not think my pcu might be the problem? not having 2x 6pin? maybe get a better make?

Your next pc component upgrade should be the psu. It's not a particularly good quality power supply to use compared to Seasonic or XFX.
Your psu is not a true 800W psu really since it only has one 6 pin connector PCIE whilst a good quality 750W can support four or more PCIE 6+2 pin PCIE connectors.

thanks for the reply. yeah that makes sense to me, would it explain the cards noise when in gameplay, maybe not enough sufficient power to run high graphic games?

Also take a look at your CPU temps as well.
By card noise do you mean by coil whine? or something else?

what should be normal temp on idle and full use? any recommendation on a good pcu? and cpu cooler?

how do you know if it is coil whine?

As long your cpu temps doens't go over sustained 80C, its fine.

When you mean it makes noise, do you mean fan noise or electrical hum? Does it continue when you in game? Also what fps did you get during that time, MSI afterburner can be set to have FPS display on screen in the settings.

The crashing may be due to the psu or simply it is the card's fault. Until you eliminate your old PSU with a better quality unit, you can't really tell.
If you have another pc that is capable of running the R9 270, you could test the card there.

its more of an electrical hum, its not the fans. it starts when a game is loaded and is constant, it sounds like the card is struggling, especially when a lot is happening on the screen, its just happened on dark souls 2 thats with me turning down the overclock too!

Do you know what the fps was when the gpu hums. If your gpu outputs over 1000+ fps or so it causes electrical hums. It's normal for graphic card to do that.
You can set a global fps limiter in AMD catalyst Application settings or MSI afterburner.

81 max fps on dark souls 2. it hums as soon as the game has loaded up

You can try to get a replacement for your GPU until you happy with it but you might get some downtime for games since you have to wait for it.
Ask the store/ seller if you can get another if possible.
