Hello, I'm currently in my build state of my computer right now i'm using a Alienware x51, I want to transfer specific data to my hard drive the OS and some of its applications NO games for my SSD. I have a 2Tb HDD that i want to transfer all my game data to like the games I downloaded and of corse my saved games. I have a iDsonix HDD and SSD Hard drive Transfer tool. But i would have to transfer the data while the computer on because it has only one spot for one hard drive at a time but it has a USB to connect to computer.

How would i transfer the certain data i'm trying to transfer im guessing its not as easy as Copy and Paste.

Solution

hmmm....that doesn't transfer 'just the key'. I do not think there is functionality for that.
Do you have the license key written down somewhere?
If not, Belarc Advisor can retrieve it.

Write it down, and use that during the install.

As far as "transfer everything!"....applications need to be reinstalled, not copied over.
Steam and Origin games, yes. Personal data, yes. Applications, no.

I want to transfer specific data to my hard drive the OS and some of its applications NO games for my SSD.

Clearer detail please. What exactly are you trying to do?

And I have not seen any migration application that allows you to pick and choose which applications to migrate to a new drive.

OS only
Everything minus 'Documents
The entire C drive
The entire partition
The entire physical drive.

What exactly do you want the end state to be?

I would want to do the OS only for my SSD 256Gb.

But I want to keep my saved games could i just transfer all my data from my HDD in my alienware to the 2Tb HDD?

On a 256GB SSD, "OS only" is really a waste of space and resources.

That drive can hold the OS, and probably ALL your applications. OS, Office, anti-virus, whatever photo applications you use, diagnostic tools, etc, etc, etc.
If you try to keep it "OS only", you're leaving 175GB extra space just laying there.

For game save data...find where that is and save those files.
Steam games can be easily moved back and forth between drives.

If I move just the OS and some photos and videos over I want to leave some room for applications I want my boot up time more faster.

But how would i go about doing this through CMD a App?

Yes, but again, that is not a selective migration. All or nothing.

I got it. I will install the Windows 7 Used disk I have here for my alienware. Then I will take the SSD (after install) out and then put it in the transfer tool and then transfer the windows key so that the key is applied the the windows 7.

Then take the 2TB HDD and transfer everything! and delete the windows files on the 2TB HDD.
