I am working on Satellite C55-B5299 and experienced the same thing. I took out the motherboard to replace the RTC battery and THERE ISN'T ONE! This is a low-end laptop and the main battery is held in by two screws. It appears they saved a couple bucks by omitting it and counting on the end user not removing the battery. The motherboard has a location for the battery marked but there is no socket soldered to the motherboard in that location. Yes, I checked both sides of the board just to be sure.

This is a cheap laptop and crap like this shouldn't even be made. At least the one I am working on has an Intel processor. Some of those low-end AMDs take like 15 minutes to boot on a clean OS. Stuff like this is a price point product and people buy it because it is cheap and not because it actually does anything well. Unfortunately just about everyone except Apple has jumped on this bandwagon of making cheap crap for this market.

This is not really an answer in fact I have the same problem but mine is a little more in depth I have a toshiba c55_5201. and it seems to not have a battery either. Theres a spot for it but there sure isnt a battery there. My other problem is that my adapter is hooked up to the main battery but it says " adapter plugged in but not charging", Now I was reading that the main battery has to fully charged to enable it to start charing an RTC battery, but no battery????? Check to make sure your battery and adapter is working correctly, me I am about to throw this one out the window.

That is what I thought but for some reason, which I can not figure why it isnt. My laptop is back up and running well and now that the main battery is taking and holding a full charge I dont have to re set the cmos clock. I have taken my laptop apart and even taken the motherboard completely out and no battery, theres a spot for one but NO battery
Thanks for your reply and I am still trying to figure this one out.
