I’ve been saving my cash for months and now I think I have enough to get into this PC thing. I want to build my own desktop, but I need help. I want to know if my components are good enough for video editing, 3D rendering, animating, and of course video games. My budget is 1700 USD.

Let me know what you think down below:

CASE: Corsair Vengeance C70 (Black)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB DirectCU II Video Card

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

DISK DRIVE: Asus BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer

WIRED CARD: Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 Network Adapter

CASE FAN: Corsair Air Series AF140 Red 66.4 CFM 140mm Fan

CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Oops, I may have posted on your duplicate post. Here's what I put.

That looks good, but I would drop the Intel Network Adapter. The onboard Ethernet ports on your motherboard are fast, and unless you require super high speed internet, you probably wont need a separate card for it. Take the money you would spend on the network adapter and get a 16GB kit of RAM, you will see much better performance in video editing, 3D rendering, and animating with the extra RAM. From here, you may want to check out the R9 290 from AMD. The 780 and R9 290 both trade blows, and the R9 might be a bit better in the programs you will be running the most.

Yeah, you're right. I might downgrade to a 120 GB SSD so I can buy more RAM. Thanks for the suggestion.

Or you could drop the SSD as you'll eat through the 120 GB FAST.

Sorry about that. I'm new to this site and I was unsure if my post was visible to everyone. I don't know how to remove the duplicate ^^;

So my motherboard has a Ethernet port built into it? Man I feel stupid. I overlooked that in the photo and description. So ditch the Wired Card and upgrade my RAM. That sounds good. I'm a bit confused about your GPU suggestion though. If I were to get an AMD video card for my Intel processor wouldn't it affect my performance? Wouldn't I need an AMD CPU in conjunction with the AMD GPU?

No, you can use an AMD video card with an Intel CPU. MY suggestion for the R9 290 is only if the programs you will be using would benefit from an R9 290. What will you be running the most?

I would personally leave the 256gb SSD, and lose the network card. Upgrade the ram though, more of it for sure and even faster ram wouldnt be a bad idea. I dont know how much 3D rendering or video editing you will be doing but 1TB might be small for storage? Assuming you have an external drive. If not maybe consider a 2TB? Not much more.
