Computer randomly restarts when gaming!

Recently I have upgraded my rig with simply adding a new CPU and motherboard which are listed before. The installation went pretty smooth and after installing a game and playing it for a good sum I thought my new rig was running great. The next day however something strange happened and in the middle of my gaming session my computer randomly restarted. It did not prompt an error message or, blue screened it just restarted.

Now being somewhat computer smart I first did a complete clean re-install of my drivers hoping it wasn't a overheating issue. This did not fix the problem which resulted in downloading programs to monitor temp. I have not broken any crazy thresholds that would to my knowledge cause an automatic restart. I checked to see if cables were touching something on my mobo and noticed that a cable was touching a screw off to the side. Though to my knowledge I don't believe a plastic wire could cause a short by touching the screw.

Now I have to express that the restarts seem very random. They only occur while gaming and only during heavy loaded games. Which makes me to believe this is a video card problem. Though the length of time in which a restart may occur are completely random which has me quite confused. I would really appreciate any advice! As at this moment I have no clue what could be causing this random restart to keep happening.

Note: I have had my computer run for 12 hours straight overnight downloading. So I know it is only restarting only during my video game sessions.

Hello, ignore the dy0152's post because for the most part that is inaccurate. Try these things

Are you sure all of the connectors are in right? Reseat the gpu, plug it in, and make sure the motherboard and cpu are plugged in.

I am almost certain your cpu cooler has a bad mount. Are you using the stock cooler that came with the 6300? Make sure the fan on it is spinning. Remove it, apply new thermal paste and put it back on.

I have already reseated my GPU pcbuilder and I have checked to make sure all fans are running. I did apply new thermal paste on the CPU before putting it back in. I don't think it is the CPU as it was the first thing I thought might be causing the problem. Though I could be missing an issue with CPU I have not thought of yet. The CPU has not gone over a temp that should lead to any concern to me.

If he has acceptable CPU temperatures than re-seating the cooler is pointless because it is not overheating. Also the H100i is a liquid cooling unit no?
As I said before common spontaneous reboots are generally overheating, or a power supply problem. That's basically an IT test question.
The GPU will draw more power when you are gaming.
I'm not sure how you want to go about checking the Power Supply.

I've experienced it personally only to realize my PSU was low wattage and needing a new one.
850 watts should be more than enough.
How old is the unit? PSU's and hard drives commonly fail.

Oh wow. The h100i should have no problem cooling even a 5960x. Okay, so we can factor that out of the equation. Would you mind taking a picture of the rig without the side panel and uploading via imgur or some-other file sharing site (dropbox or google drive are also fine), just to make sure you are not missing anything.

How long have you had the gpu? The 560ti is fairly old, and this starts happening to gpu (slow failure) after around 2.5-3 years. Worst case, maybe reapply the gpu thermal paste. What are your tempratures like? Run something like the heaven benchmark to see if there is artifcating and if temps are alright.

I will be uploading the photos shortly here I just wanted to comment on the video card. Yes my video card is pretty old and, I think it has been at most used for 5 years! lol! So if anything it could be that my GPU is going defective or a few of it's cores died. I just thought it was really odd that this happened right after I install a new CPU and motherboard. Do you mind sending a link to the Heaven benchmark for me to install I have never actually heard of that software before.

As for my PSU it is actually quite new I would say at most 2 years old or less. It is a Corsair tx 850w. Thank you for taking the time to help me solve this puzzle it has been an extremely frustrating problem.

Here ya go:https://unigine.com/products/heaven/
, btw happy September. Anyways the gpu is almost certainly the problem. You have a nice high end rig (you should've gone for an fx 8320, but now it's too late), but anyways the gpu is likely the problem. Anyways, use some q-tips, baby wipes, and some compressed air, to go ahead and fully dust it out. Hold the fans in place and clean it up. Also fix the cable management. These will help extend the life of the components. Here's my rig, it also just looks really nice now.Fix cable management, dust it out, and clean out the whole build.

Hey PCbuilder I had something interesting happen that caused my computer to restart. This time however it created an mini dump. I checked out what caused the BSOD and it is telling me it is a driver created by Microsoft?

The driver is called. ndis.sys and ntoskrnl.exe. Is there a way I could send you the dmp file so you can take a look at it?

Yeah, you can upload it via google drive or Dropbox or something. Are your running a legit copy of windows? This is most likley a software issue. Are temps and everything alright? Sounds like an important driver is crashing.
