Okay before you call me an idiot, yes I know the 770 is better.

I will be playing games like Skyrim a lot but i don't really need to run everything on max settings so should i get something cheaper like the gtx 760?

ALSO i will be running it with a i5 4690k overclocked

More about : gtx 770 gtx 760

If you can affford the 770 go with it, or if you're more budget concious get the 760.

Cost vs frame rates. Your choice. But at 1080p, the GTX 760 will make you very happy... and you'll have some money left over. That is, assuming you have a decent CPU to keep up with it.

....I run a GTX 760, and at 1080p it's more than capable of maxing everything I play. Does a great job at 3D rendering jobs with Blender Cycles, too, and it stays remarkably cool even in a Rosewill W1 mini-ITX case.

I specifically play a LOT of skyrim with HD mods, FXAA Post-Process injector, and a boatload of other mods... it plays butter smooth.

Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. :)  No need to pay extra money for extra heat output if you don't need it, but if you feel you'd benefit from the extra FPS of a 280/770, then by all means go ahead and drop the extra money.

Has been solved, but I'll throw in my 2 cents:

I'm running an i5 4670 w/ GTX 760, 8GB RAM & I'd say it is more than enough to max MOST but not ALL games.

For example, I get ~100fps avg. on Bioshock Infinite (though it will occasionally dip to 50) with everything on/cranked to Ultra (but terrible screen tearing, so I lock it to 60/turn on vsync)

But on Metro 2033, I just got ~40fps avg when maxed. Still very playable, but not quite good enough for some.

So, I'd say, a GTX 760 is great for all but the most demanding of games.
