Hi there, I have been adding stuff to my PC to be able to play some of those latest games like Watch dogs and BF4... I only need the RAM, 8GBs of good RAM sticks at least, I had planned to buy the Corsair Vengenance Pro RED series (to match everything red inside my case) so checking the list of compatible RAMs for my motherboard it does support the CMY16GX3M2A2400C10R kit, it also have higher timing settings and voltage (1.65v)... my motherboard for being low-end only support 1600Mhz max so I'm planning on getting the 1600Mhz kit which has more "standard" timing 9-9-9-24 (CL9/1.5v), since the other kit tested fine I would assume this would work ok as well.

But happens that its been a month since I bought my new video card and for not having RAM sticks to boot up my system I haven't used it yet I'm not even sure if it works or not lol and I just can't wait any longer to play on it, so I was thinking on getting a single 4GB stick for now and later get another 4GB stick, the Corsair Vengeance Pro Red only sells as kits of 2x4GB+ not single sticks, I would have to wait for about 1 month and a half to buy it, so looking around I found the Kingston HyperX FURY 1600Mhz which sells as 4GB-single sticks and I can order it tomorrow BUT It run at a higher timing settings 10-10-10-XX (CL10/1.5v) which from what I've read is not okay for today's standards and since I don't see none of these kits being compatible with by motherboard they would probably not work, I'm not sure though.

Another reason I ask is because I won't keep my AMD parts for much time I'll be upgrading to Intel i5 as soon as Broadwell drops, so the Corsair Vengeance RAM would be more suitable for it and would let me overclock better(get better result)? than the HyperX kit.

My current system is:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 @stock
MB: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
GPU: MSI GTX 760 Twin Frozr
PSU: Corsair CX500

So yeah, to you guys with experience on the matter will be there any noticeable difference in gaming and/or overall between both sticks, what would you recommend me to do? I could also wait since the time to return the GPU to the store expired anyway but I still have enough warranty from the manufacturer just in case :) , Any input will be appreciated and sorry for the wall of text.

With you current mobo I'd hold off on DRAM till you go to the new rig, think you're mobo supports up through 1333, you could go faster sticks and downclock them....bu I'd hold off

I have done a little research about it and it seems that the latest revision of this board v5.0 (which is the one i have) support 1600Mhz without OC, anything above that will downclock. I'll be fine with 1600Mhz, don't mind OC or anything above that for now.

Case is, I don't have any RAM right now, so I have to pick either 1. Wait a half of a month and buy the Corsair kit and I wouldn't have to get better RAM when I get the Intel parts (i5 + Z97 board) or 2. I can go with the Kingston HyperX route now which let me buy a single stick of 4GB to start using my system but I don't know if will be compatible with my board, I'm not sure If there will be any noticeable difference in gaming between both stick despite having different specs?, and maybe the Kingston choice wont be good overclocker as Corsair choice for when i get the Intel parts.

Ok well, this is where I'm trying to get at, I mean is that true then that Kinston RAM is bad or worse overall? what I said is merely based on numbers (higher is better) and stuff I'm not %100 sure lol... sorry man so many stuff is confusing to me.

For the most part, DRAM is DRAM (the Kingston Fury is an exception they use PnP for setup, where most every other stick out there 1600 or better uses XMP. Kingston is OK DRAM, nothing special, sticks will run at spec, I prefer stronger sticks that have some OC overhead - and not because I want or need to OC them, but I like quality components so having the OC headroom shows they are strong

Kingston is a well known brand along with Corsair. There's nothing wrong with Kingston quality. Me? I like GSkill.

Good point about the picking stronger RAM Tradesman1, I think I'll wait then even though the Corsair RAM are not aimed for systems like mine, I'll go for it anyway. I'll use their OC capabilities for when i get the Intel parts in case I need it.

Thanks both of you, cheers.

Hi guys, here a quick heads up I recently saw this "new" upcoming kits from Kingston, the HyperX Savage, I really like the design of the head spreader, seems good yet slightly under Corsair Vengeance Pro series quality though.
The people at overclockers did some test on it:
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/74996...

The kit/stick I'd be considering is this one:
http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/HX316C9SR_4.pdf

Assuming they are all the same chips with the same components, I can get the same OC as the people on overclockers with the C9-1600Mhz stick, correct?, also they do not seem really CL9 (as its enabled by the XMP profile) I mean, not because of its JEDEC standard, Am I correct?... What you guys think?

As for why picking between Corsair and HyperX, well for my system these are the only designs/color scheme I like, I've looked G.Skill, ADATA which offer almost a similar quality as Corsair Pro Series kit and I can order single sticks of 4GBs but I don't really like their design, hope you understand haha

PS: darm you Corsair y u no?
