I currently run a HP Envy 700-327c Desktop PC hooked up through an DVI-D to HDMI cable and to a SONY Bravia 48" TV. I currently only get video (no audio). My HP does not have an HDMI port (I wish they included an HDMI port on a $775 tower). Will an RCA cable work for the audio? if so, will the audio be lower quality compared to HDMI? also is my DVI-D to HDMI cable lowering my video quality compared to HDMI? if so, how can I get an HDMI port installed on my Desktop?

Sincerely,

Person who just wants to use his computer from his couch.

You can only get an HDMI port by installing a discrete video card. However, the DVI cable doesn't degrade the quality compared to HDMI.

And, yes, you can use a cable that turns the audio output from the computer into an RCA connection, though I don't know how that can adversely affect the quality. I'm assuming the quality won't be the same as if it were passed via HDMI.

The quality of RCA vs HDMI audio will be minimal. The only difference is that the devices that recieve HDMI signals can usually process that audio slightly better.
I just tried it myself with my Sony Bravia TV and I did not notice any difference whatsoever.
