Hello,

Looking for input on an extremely low budget PC (< $300 - $350) that I can build for a family member who doesn't use a computer much. Uses will include checking emails, paying bills online, microsoft word etc.

I'm not familiar with older hardware and would most likely end up building something incompatible. Thanks for any input / suggestions.

It would be cheaper to just get a pre-built from Walmart or Amazon unless you already own an OS or plan on using a free version like Linux.

Which is why I said it would be best to probably just go with a pre-built one...or a laptop would be better.

That is still a waste of money. You are looking at around $100 in cost for those two parts. Leaving $200 - $250 for other components. If an operating system is included in the budget...that means $100 approximately taken away...leaving $100 - $150. If you went with a cheap case and power supply, that would be around $50 together, a 1 TB HDD would be $50, and DVD/CD drive would be $15. So even using the budget of $350, that would only leave $35 for the RAM...which is roughly the cost of 4 GB of RAM is. I would hope that the keyboard and mouse would not be needed to be in the cost then because it would go over budget.

For a basic computer for just checking emails and such, you could build a super cheap system, but after having to pay for the OS, you might as well get a pre-built one.
