SSD and USB connection lost: motherboard problem...?

I run Windows 8.1 Upgrade on a ASRock Extreme6 motherboard with a i7 4790K CPU. I have two Crucial MX100 520 GB drives.

Yesterday my computer locked up completely and after a restart I got a black screen and a message that I should connect a bootable drive... I went into the BIOS and noticed the first SSD (on the Intel 0 port) was not connected. Cables were fine though... After a few reboots the SSD still wasn't connected so I completely cut the power and after that the PC booted as if nothing happened. So my first idea was the SSD is breaking down... it's only two months old though, my entire PC is just new.

But then something else happened: shocked by the lost SSD I decided to back up a few files on a USB HD: I connected it to one of the USB 3.0 ports and after a few seconds the explorer screen showing the contact of the USB HD popped as usual. During the backup however, that screen popped up three times...! So it seems connection was lost a few times just like that? The backup proceeded as if nothing had happened but after it ended I noticed a lot of files weren't back upped... I restarted the backup process and this time no screens popped up and the backup succeeded...

Seems that not only the connection with the SSD is going bad but also the USB connection... So while I first thought this was a storage problem, I am nog beginning to think it's a motherboard problem. Or could it have something to do with power...?

I have to add that the the afternoon before this happened I had an app crash with Prepar3D, a flightsim, which I never had before. Pure coincidence or is something going down...? As I said, the PC is brand new (two months).

Anyone knows what could cause this and where to start looking for a solution? I have no clue where to start!
