just bought a new/used computer and the HDD is sad, I have a laptop HDD that connects to the same connectors and need to know if i need to do something special to make my computer boot up using JUST THE HDD from the laptop, i mean if it connects using the same two connections can my mobo boot it or do i need to change boot menu settings using a sata cable on it first? (doing this so it will show up in the boot menu while the old HDD is still connected)

Solution
Moving a laptop drive (with the OS) to a desktop almost always entails a reinstallation of the OS.
It probably will not boot.

The only way to know is to try it.
If it does, great. If it doesn't, reinstall.

Either way, you will have to attempt to reactivate the license. That OS on the laptop is almost certainly an OEEM license, and as such tied to that laptop motherboard.
It is entirely up to MS as to whether they will allow reusing that license on a new desktop.

The HDD is not very old just the mobo on my laptop went out and I just want to know if I'm going to be able to boot and use the HDD as the master instead of as a slave SSD or high volume flash drive basically

no need to be rude i was going to take your advice just wanted a lil more info geez get all bent out of sorts for no reason when i simply asked if it was possible to do under the best possible OS circumstances. For instance if the OS isn't OEM and the HDD is compatible with the currently used drives connections then do I have to change boot priority with both hooked up or can i just interchangeably move one in and the other out as needed
