hi quick question

is the Corsair RM 850watt PSU the right size for my corsair carbide 540? as in not too big?

No its a standard PSU, and will fit into the case w/o issues

YES the CASE has a PSU clearance of 200mm and the PSU length is 180 mm so no problem .
