As above, after spending a painstakingly epic amount of time deciding which aftermarket gtx 780 I was going to buy, (the Inno3d ichill gtx 780 herculez ultra) the prices jumped up from £370 to £430.
The card still looks good, and runs cool, but I can't help but think, seeing as the KFA2 780 ti is the same price, it would be more sensible going with the later card?

Solution
I recommend waiting for the new MAXWELL cards as the price and launch details should be out this month.

Rumor has it the GTX880/980 will cost about the same as a GTX780 and perform slightly better than the GTX780Ti.

The EVGA GTX 780 967MHz (base frequency) model is the best value IMO. A lot of the more expensive cards rarely add much to real-world numbers beyond this.

The best GTX780Ti in my opinion based on USA pricing is the Asus Matrix version which is $620 USD and an incredibly well built card.

The K1ngp1n version from EVGA is over $100USD more and in real-world testing gives almost no benefit, in fact both cards are the same if you overclock both to their limits anyway.

my fear would be that if they do launch this year, prices will remain high due to supply/demand. I think I might be hanging on for a while before a 980 is in my price bracket.

my options are as the title as i see it at the moment, although after a bit of checking it seems in reviews the reference 780 ti does run awfully hot compared to 3rd party 780 solutions

this one: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/63393-inno3d-ichill-geforce-gtx-780-herculez-x3-ultra/

seems to pretty much match a reference 780ti in performance, whilst being slightly quieter and almost 20c cooler on load. legend suggested the lack of exposure for this card was due to it only being offered in europe.

I agree the matrix 780 ti looks awesome, but on this side of the pond we seem to pay a premium with all electrical goods, it's £560 here, about $930 !!!

maybe the 780 price hike is due to supply, as stockpiles begin to dry up in preparation for the 900 series rollout?

Unsure, although i can't stomach paying much more than £400/$670 for a video card, that already puts me into an i5 and mid level M/board situation, as well as reusing a 10 year old psu and hdds from an old pc and laptop!!!
