I need a good PC. Reading this may take more than a few seconds, but I will truly appreciate the collective knowledge here and want to carefully describe what I am trying to do.

A Good PC, in my book, is a machine that will provide performance and reliability.

To start performance: I do CAD work, video editing, the standard array of home and office stuff. I develop code in a number of languages for a number of different processors. I run VM and have dozens of OS configurations, including Windows (several flavors) Linux (many flavors) and even DOS and CP/M. I have two wide-screen performance monitors (2560 X 1080) using display ports.

Reliability: I want the thing to last for more than a new years. The latest crop of PC's I purchased from brand names seem to last 2 to 3 years; then a HDD craps out, a cap pops on the motherboard, power supply smokes, etc, etc.

So what I am looking for is a motherboard that has got processor power, good bandwidth, good thermal management, handles VM well ( memory, processor, I/O and is of good quality ). I need at least 4 HDD channels.

Memory; at least 32 GB and it shoule be matched with the capability of the processor and motherboard.

And the graphics card(s); some zip is needed and the ability to support the monitors. While I am not a gamer, real-time rendering for CAD and video editing place a significant burden on the graphics engine.

Thermal management, keeping these compute engines in range adds to the reliability.

Reliable and fast HDD's will keep the system in performance balance. I've a Thinkpad that is blindingly fast but the disk slows it to a crawl.

OK. Its a lot to read, and if you got here, and offer any guidance, I will be grateful.

Mike

I money is not a limiting factor I would get the following.

1. Asus deluxe x99 motherboard
2. 8 core intel cpu and a closed loop water cooler such as the h 100i
3. 32 gb ddr4 of G Skill or Corsair Ram
4. Corsair 860i power supply or a comparable sea sonic model
5. Corsair 760t case
6. GTX Titan Black Video card
7. Samsung 850 pro 512 gb or 1 tb ssd

Above are the main components that should be more than enough for your needs...
You can add ssd's or HD's according to your needs.
