Specs:
Intel Core i7-2630QM
Intel Graphics HD 3000
Nvidia Geforce 560M
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
BIOS: A12 Unlocked

The problem is that I get low FPS in games. between 10-15 fps.
Battlefield 3 was running flawless a year ago, but know it lags so much that I cannot even play it.
I don't know if i have an issue with my CPU or my GPU. I have updated all my drivers. From windows updates and from Nvidia, Intel and Alienware sites.

The story is that everything worked a year ago. Then my adapter got bad and I didn't get enough power from it to play games. I didn't bother to buy a new one since I didn't play any games.
now I have a new adapter. 240W power. I have done a clean install of windows and even upgraded to a SSD.

the only thing that is changes is the SSD, but I can't play any games on this laptop. I know the specs aren't to great, but games that worked perfectly before, doesn't work anymore. Even Minecraft gives me 10-15 fps.

Is there any test I can do, so i can see what the issue is? I really don't want to turn in the PC so DELL can fix it. It will probably take 1-2 months.

Thanks..

I'm guessing when you reinstalled Windows Optimus now isn't working properly or isn't installed at all and the laptop is running off the integrated Intel graphics:

There should be drivers available for this on the Alienware support website.

I guess the optimus technology come with the Nvidia driver itself. I went to the controlpanel and The CPU was standard. I switch to GPU and it got a little bit better, but it still lags to much.

Is the GPU running at the correct speed? I believe the Unigine Heaven benchmark will display the GPU clock speed on screen whilst it's running. I'm wondering if some kind of throttling is happening (too hot and/or not enough power).

I know it gets enough power since I just bought a new adapter with 240W power. It's possible the GPU gets a little hot, but it still lags when I just launch the game, when the GPU is not hot. I will check the speed of the GPU, but if the GPU speed is wrong. What can I do about it? Run a software and turn up the speed? Do I need to run the software all the time then?
I just want the GPU to work like it did when I got the laptop. Without any Software to make the GPU work.
