Asus Maximus VII Hero Fan Controlling Dilemma

Hey guys!

I'm about to order all the items for my new build but went into a problem with the motherboard of my choice and the controlling of my arrangement of fans.

So here we go:

The case of my choice is a Corsair Carbide Air 540 in which you can arrange a total number of 6 fans. I personally want to use 3 120mm fans in the front for intake and 2 140mm fans (rear and top) for outtake, so a total of 5 case fans.

And here comes the problem:
The Asus Maximus VII Hero only has 4 case fan connectors which all are voltage controlled (correct me if I'm wrong) even though they're 4 pins. There is an Opt Cpu connector but according to users on the Asus Forum this header just mirrors the behavior of the cpu cooler, so i wouldn't be able to control the fan connected to this header.

So and here's my Question:
Could i just use a Y-Splitter on one of the Case Fan Headers on the motherboard so i could control 2 of the 120mms in the front as one fan? Would the two fans on the y-splitter just draw more power but would get the same Voltage and therefore would run at the same rpm? And would it be safe to run 2 fans off one header (the fans need 0,2 amp to be powered)?

Huh you're right, I just looked up the manual and the only headers with a PWM pin are the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT headers.

Two normal fans will run fine of one header though, shouldn't be a problem.

Also, yes, the CPU_OPT header mirrors the CPU_FAN header.

You can simply use a Y-splitter to connect multiple fans to a single header and they'll work just fine, the motherboard will control them as if they were one fan.
If these specific fans need a heap of power or if you connect a lot of fans to a single header you'll want to go with a Y-splitter that has an auxiliary Molex connector to supply power.

Thanks for the fast reply! Afaik a Splitter with an Molex connector would result in the fans running at full speed because Asus boards just controll fan speed by regulating the voltage (not PMW despite the Headers being 4-Pin)

As i only want to run 2 low power fans (0,2amp) off one Header i think i would be safe to use a simple y-splitter.
