I have a Samsung Q530 purchased in late 2010.
The adapter showed signs of malfunctioning over the past 4 or 5 months. Suddenly now it will not charge my laptop. The adapter light is on when plugged into a power outlet, but when I insert the coaxial power connector to the laptop my battery doesn't seem to be receiving power: orange light doesn't come on, battery icon says "on battery", battery doesn't charge.

Adapter: CPA 09-004A (19V/3.16A DC 60W)
Battery: AA-PB9NC6B

I don't know whether the adapter is broken or whether my battery is too old and can no longer be recharged. I have no other compatible computers to test my adapter on. I need to know so I can decided which part to replace.

Thanks.

Solution
Is there any physical damage to the adapter? Does the connection on the laptop appear to be loose, or have damage to it?

If you live near a Best Buy store - the geek squad may be able to test the adapter/battery quickly for you (depending on how busy they are) while you wait.

Given your description, it appears that your power supply is at fault, but if the connector on the mobo is bad, replacing the power supply won't solve the problem.

Everything on the motherboard seemed to be in place. As for the coaxial connector it plugs in securely.
There are no Best buys here in Europe, I'll see if my local electronics store can help me.
