So I have this new computer. I recently unplugged it because of a storm passing by and when I plugged it back in I could hear a little high pitched noise coming from it. When I turned it on it booted to a black screen after the w7 logo. I held the power button to shut it down and turned it back on and it worked but do not want this to be a occasional thing? Is it just a one time fluke?

Solution
When you unplugged it the state that it was shutdown to's session information might have been lost thus windows not knowing what to do with this, didn't boot completely thus only going to a certain piont and not further. When you rebooted it created a new session state resolving the issue. You will not receive this problem again. Unless a major storm blows your pc away! haha

It is possible that you shutdown to a sleep mode. When you unplug a sleeping Windows 7 computer, it loses its session state. I have seen this happen with my own computer. The first boot it doesn't know what to do with the session fragment that was left and needs a reboot to clean that session and start fresh.

(I could be wrong, YMMV.)

Oh ok I understand now. I was just worried I got a defective unit. Before this happened I only started the computer twice so it is fairly new.

Alright thanks for your help. Since it's brand new it still could be adjusting. Who knows. I could have gotten the one that was not turned on in months.
