Currently im looking at upgrading my cpu and motherboard in my computer and selling them to a friend who is looking to build a computer. I have a Phenom II X6 1090T and GA-890GPA-UDH3 currently and am looking at spending about 400 between a new CPU and Motherboard. Currently im a little unsure of if i should go for an AMD build or Intel.

At the moment im looking at FX-8350 and an ASUS M5A99FX. Im not sure if it would be better to go with an I5 build though instead. Some things to keep in mind are that i plan on overclocking and use my computer mainly for gaming.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Look at the cpu hierarchy chart.

You really can't get a better amd cpu then what you have. I really doubt you will see any performance increase from you current cpu unless you go really high end intel.

Why do you want to upgrade anyway?

As much as I hate to admit you would have to go intel,, gam3r01 is right. That is about the best you can do for a real upgrade, though I would say your performance increase would be hardly noticeable.

What are your other system specs? What resolution are you playing at? I would say you probably wont see any perceivable performance increase unless you are playing at least 120hz at 2560x1440. If you are just running standard hd, even at 120hz I think you might be headed down the wrong path as far as upgrades go.

I personally wouldn't upgrade, but if you want to go through the trouble then the i5 4690k is the right choice.

CS:

You're really near top-of-the-hill with lastgen hardware. I'm in a similar boat, and building a new XEON was fun, but brought precious little practical improvement. To really improve with a new build = $$$$. AMDs latest has nothing to offer. Intel will increase your gaming speed by 1/3 for the price of a Montana trout-fishing vacation. gag.

IMVHO show patience ... save-yo-pennies for a **next** Christmas 30" monitor, i7 & killer vidcard system.
