What is a good GA2011-3 CPU Cooler?

Hey Guys,

I am looking to upgrade to the new Haswell-e 5930k and I can not seem to find a good CPU cooler, or find one that i know will fit on the motherboard. It has been about 5 years since i last looked and things seem to have changed a bit. I was originally going to look at doing a water cooling set up on it, but my case doesn't have the clearance to do an internal radiator for an AIO solution. So I think i am limited to air cooling.

I plan to do some light over clocking on the CPU, nothing much, just whatever something like OC Genie will allow me to do. I do lot of 3D modeling/ animation / After Effects as well as a bit of gaming.

My case is an Antec p193 and right now i have a (I think it is a Tunique?) that sits about 6 inches off of the motherboard, and it fits so I have a bit of clearance to work with. I was looking at something like the Noctua NH-D14 but I have no idea if that would even fit on something like the MSI x99s Gaming 9 AC (it is an E-ATX board). I am not partial to any brand so long as it works. also sound is not an issue (so long as it doesn't sound like a wood chipper =P)

As always any and all help you guys could give would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
idk about most of the coolers, but if you look up the cpu cooler your looking at and check for lga 2011-3 support then their is your answer.

BTW... why the 5930K? Since the 5820K is a hexa core cpu aswell but cheaper.

Hey guys thanks for the input!

I do plan to use at least 2 graphics cards (thinking about 3 or 4), and with programs like maya it will use all available threads to render. I would get the X series 8 core but price to performance is not that great. Having the higher clock speeds and more PCI lanes will be very beneficial for what i do since I will be doing physics simulations as well.

The cooler says it is LGA 2011 compatible (which i believe means it will work with 2011-3?)

I am just more concerned with ram compatibility. right now i am just buying some Gskill ripjaws (no heat spreader) until some better ram comes out for DDR4 down the line. when that does i plan to get something like the kensington low profile ram. Do you guys think something like that would fit under a bigger cooler like the Noctua NH-D14?

Is there a particular cooler you guys like and/or use that you think would be good?

Again, Thanks a lot for all the help!

Sorry what i meant was that i am going with cheap ddr4 memory for now then will upgrade to something better once it is not insanely priced. The 5930k has faster clock speeds out of the box and that is what i was mostly interested in since i do not do much overclocking.

So i guess the noctua cooler would fit on that board? It just seems big.

Thanks for the input!

So different question along the same lines as my original. can anyone tell me the difference between the LGA 2011 square vs. Narrow and if the 2011-3 is square or narrow?

Thanks.
