I have three options: PS2, PSP or a new phone (budget: $200). Should I even think about getting a PS2 in 2014? Out of the three options, which one would you choose?
I read that it is easy to download games for PS2(without much complications), so that's a plus, 'cause my folks won't let me spend 100s of $s on games alone.. e_e

I would choose a new phone. There are no games that are released for Ps2 anymore and a lot of the best games on the PS2 are available on modern consoles, like the best game of all, Resident Evil 4. Although with a $200 budget you could probably get a PS2 and a fairly decent phone. If you are not too bothered about the brand of a new phone, you could look at buying a Chinese brand smartphone, your money will go a lot further (more bang for you buck).

I'd go phone, consider what games you'd actually play on the PS2. As for the PSP, the older models can't connect to all new types of wifi, my PSP 2000 can't connect to my BT HomeHub :(

I personally love the PS2. There are some fantastic games. I bet you could pick up a ps2 and bunch of games off ebay or craigslist in your area. Also, you can pick up new games really cheap so your parents might not mind you spending the occasional 10 bucks here and there.

Right now there is a ps2 emulator that runs on most systems: www.pcsx2.net
You can put your ps2 discs on your pc optic drive and play directly from it. As for psp, there is also an emulator but i've never used it.

mlga91 is right, you should definitely buy a new phone. Soon, smartphones will be powerful enough to run ps2 emulator software anyway.
