I wanted to ask if im building a gaming pc, should i use more money on the GPU or on the CPU?

Solution
GPU is the answer. However don't go crazy like a GTX 780ti for your GPU and then like an Intel Celeron for your CPU, Or the other way around so like an intel i7 5960x 8 core $1000 CPU and then get someting like a GT 610 which is cheap these days You want a balanced build for your budget. Speaking of budget if you tell me your budget if you are building a gaming PC and I can help you with picking the parts

GPU always. Since its the most important part you should spend more on the gpu. However that doesn't mean that you should get a bad cpu, the system needs to he balanced. Whats your budget. It depends on how much you want to spend.

As a general rule I would say 1/3 of the money toward the cpu and 2/3 toward the gpu. Things change when you reach both extreme ends of a budget.

Depends on the games : BF4 is cpu intensive, so for that game, the cpu is more important than the gpu although you still need a descent cpu. It also depends on the quality of image you want. If you have a cheap GPU, you will get low/medium setting.

I would definitely recommend looking up some gaming PC builds for your price range. Generally speaking, and especially for gaming purposes, more money should go towards a good GPU.

Now, depending on the type of games you intend on playing, the price of a GPU suitable for your needs will change a bit.

For very graphically demanding games, such as First Person Shooters, definitely don't cheap out here. I'd say you'd want to spend at least $200 or $250 on your graphics card.

If you intend on playing less demanding games, such as Minecraft or WoW, you could definately get away with spending about $150, with $120 being the absolute least.

The CPU is definitely still important, but for gaming, throw more money into a nice GPU. And if you're looking to get a good CPU for a bit cheaper, look at AMD's FX Series.

Good luck with your build!

Gotta agree with the majority here. Typically, the GPU is where you'll notice the most bang for your buck and is also normally a bottleneck. That being said, there are certainly games out there that are more CPU intensive. I'd look up some benchmarks if I were you. They can tell a lot about differences between graphics cards at least (Google should give you a plethora of results). If you know what you want to spend on the GPU you can take a look at this article as well (updated each month, but keep in mind stores change prices frequently, and aren't always reflected in the graphs). But again, don't completely neglect a CPU either.
