Hi,

Im new to overclocking, but seeing that we all have to start somewhere, I overclocked my fx8320 on my asrock 970 extr4 to 4ghz by increasing the multiplier to 20.

I ran the intelburntest for ten mins and the max temp on HWMON never exceeded 59.

I noticed on CPUZ that my DRAM Freq. had lowered from 800 to 400 (i have 8gb ddr3 1600). Will this adversely affect my computers performance in gaming and should I adjust it, or leave it as is? Also, why did this happen?

Im using a hypertx3 as cooler, not the best but a lot quieter than stock ;)

Cheers,

Solution
Different mobos use different approaches with DRAM - the most common on AMD mobos are look for DOCP, EOCP or XMP - enable whichever is there and select 1600

Hey,

Did as you said, and managed to set frequency to 1600. When set to auto it sets it 800 apparently (with overclock).

Funny thing though, when I OC to 4ghz I get this crackling sound when alt tabbing between programs which I dont get when I revert to stock 3,5ghz. Any ideas on that? Weird sounds freak me the F out.

Cheers and tnx for the help,

im having the same issue lol. not the crackling sound...wich is never good in a comp, i know this from blowing up my last psu and mobo...anyway i recently oc'd my amd 8350 to 4.5ghz and noticed in cpu-z that the dram frequency dropped by almost half...from 933 to like 550mhz. i cant tell if the system is any faster or slower lol its a pretty beast rig but it bugs me about the low dram , since i just upgraded from 8gb1333 to 16gb @1866! i have an asus crosshair v formula z mobo, and it comes with auto overclocking, cpu level up1 and cpu lvl up2. so u dont have to manually set any voltages or anything...although u could but for sure id burn something up lol
