i am trying to reinstal windows 7 onto a partition but it doesn't allow me to because it is MBR when it needs to be CPT. The only operating system i am able to use at the moment is kali linux and whenever i try to format the disk i get an error saying "One or more partitions are busy on /dev/sda".

Solution
OK. When you install windows you should come to a point where you should choose a partition. You should delete all partitions that are currently on the hard drive. Then you could create new ones or you could simply let windows setup create one boot and one system partition automatically. The error message seems like you are trying to format from Linux while the OS is running. That can't happen.
