is the new I7 5th gen worth it?

As most of you know intel released the new I7 5th gen CPU's and are avaible for purchase BUT..You need a 2011 socket compatible mobo + DDR4 ram wich can easily cost you 800 euros for both and not to forget the cpu in a price range of 400+euros - 1k. I think that a I7 4th gen + a way cheaper motherboard + ram would do a better job GAMING wise but not video edit blabla wise obv. But that is just my opinion :p

What is your opinion?

I7 1st gen was Nahelem 1366 socket and 1156 socket. 2nd generation is Sandy Bridge and Sandy Bridge-E, 3rd was Ivy Bridge and Ivy Bridge-E and 4th is the current one - Haswell and Haswell-E. 5th gen will be Broadwell. Apparently, there are some rumors, that even though Broadwell will come in in existing Z97 motherboards, there might be new boards that support Broadwell and DDR4. If you want to game - just get the latest I5. If you want to render stuff - then it is a completely different story.

I'm standing pat on my Ivy bridge CPU. Talking to one guy about a higher-end development workhorse ATM. He's interested in a build around the $2800 mark... Will be a replacement for a i7-3820K. My estimate is we'll get a nice performance upgrade - especially since we'll be putting in M.2 SATA as boot device and a PCIe SATA card as work/staging for video capture and rendering. Should improve his rendering jobs substantially, as well as his development builds.
