AARRGGHH!
Why can I ping my printer but not print to it across the LAN? Wired connection... Windows XP laptop. HP6700. HP6700 running dhcp connected at 192.168.0.10. And I checked for printer firmware update and installed.... I can of course walk upstairs and plug in via USB and it will print readily. But I need this to work and want to know why it won't.
When I ran Windows Troubleshoot utility it gave a message indicating a conflict with the laptop name??? So I went to My computer properties tab and changed the name back to the default name "doug-9bbf1bb766"
Folders are set to shared.... Very annoying...
One interesting tidbit.... "My Network Places" will not open... and several days ago I locked myself out of both my email and web browser by accidentally hiding entire file directories...may be unrelated....

Just need a little clarification on how it's connected. Is the printer connected wired or wirelessly? If wired, is it connected via Cat5 to the router? I'm assuming it is not shared through another PC since you mentioned it has an assigned IP address.

You mentioned updating the firmware, but did you use the included setup disk?

Are you able to print over the LAN from any other devices?

Yes. To router via a switch actually.

Correct, the printer has it's own Lan port and network card.

You mentioned updating the firmware, but did you use the included setup disk? NO.

Are you able to print over the LAN from any other devices?

Yes . Tried a Windows 8 machine over the WIFI segment of the network....
