what should i go with

should i go with buying another radeon hd 6950 1gb or should i buy a r9 270x if i buy another radeon 6950 ill put it in crossfire but im not sure if thats the best idea since these newer cards are gonna support certain things like direct x 12 what should i do?? my specs amd fx4130 quad core processor a gigabyte radeon hd 6950 1gb 8 gb corsair vengance 64 gb crucial m4 ssd a 500 gb samsung hdd 7200 rpm a msi 970a-g46 motherboard and a chieftec 850 watt psu

Incorrect. A 270x is actually a 7870 which only has 25% more performance than the 6950. Crossfire the 6950 and you will have more performance. But are you sure you want to go through the trouble ? The 6xxx series crossfire is a pain the a** and you do not want to go through that. A 270x would give you around 25-30% increase in performance against a single 6950. But the...
The single 270x would give a far better performance boost than crossfire 6950
When you crossfire, you don't get double the performance, as you would think with double the GPU's, so the VRAM would not add up either, 2x 2GB cards will still leave you with 2GB total
Best go for the 270x out of that choice
If had a budget in mind, maybe a better card may be suggested

But the 280x would give you a lot more and you will also be future proof, and when the time comes and it cannot keep up just crossfire that an you would be good to go for a couple more years.
